Thanks to Dawson’s secret Santas!
The Dawson community once again showed its care for the well-being of all through our participation in the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres Holiday Campaign.
More than 2,000 children and teens this year received holiday gifts through the campaign, reported Janice Harvey (retired Faculty, History), coordinator of the Dawson mobilization.
The Dawson community provided gifts for 97 children. A total of 56 individuals or groups from Dawson participated.
“Several of the children who are in very disadvantaged families were covered by several different people to provide them both with the clothing they asked for and toys, or with toys and grocery cards or household goods for the families. If the grocery cards and household items are counted as gifts/children, it raises the number to more than 100,” Janice said.
Among the children covered were five teenagers who will no longer be in the system next year. “Donations from individuals and groups at Dawson enabled me to provide each of these older teenagers with gift cards for almost $200,” Janice said.
Thanks to all who participated.
