Support for teaching IN French at Dawson

The Teaching in French Task Force is mandated to support teachers in developing or adapting the courses that will be taught in French in the context imposed by the Charter of the French Language (Law 14). The Task Force, which is made up of four teachers and three pedagogical counsellors, is ready to support teachers with any of the following:

  • Designing or adapting learning activities and assessments for multi-level groups
  • Understanding the different levels of French proficiency among Dawson鈥檚 student population and the variable language skills of students in the courses in French
  • Identifying strategies that facilitate teaching in French in multi-level groups
  • Developing Course Design Documents for new complementary courses in French
  • Developing learning outcomes for new courses
  • Integrating Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Writing in the Disciplines (WID) principles into courses to support success of students with varying levels of French
  • Selecting course material in French in a multi level context (books, articles, web sites, etc.)
  • Other matters as needed

The Teaching in French Task Force has created a with a wealth of resources created specifically for the Dawson context. Members of the Task Force are also supporting teachers individually and in small groups as they (re)design their courses in French. The Task Force offered two Ped Day workshops, one on challenges of and strategies for teaching in French, and the other on re/designing complementary courses in French. The Task Force will offer a condensed version of these workshops on the mornings of December 11th and January 15th.
