Highlights of the Dawson Blues 2019-2020 Season

Here are the highlights of the 2019-2020 season of our beloved Dawson Blues. The season ended abruptly because of the COVID-19 pandemic but there is much to celebrate. These highlights were compiled by Dawson’s Sébastien Rivest.
Fall Sports
- Arrival of 2 new sports at Dawson: golf and baseball
- Women’s Rugby falls short in the final to John Abbott 29-12 for the second year in a row
- Women’s Soccer qualifies for the Provincials by beating the Outaouais Griffons by a score of 1-0 at the Conference Championship. They fell short in the bronze medal game of the provincials to the Cegep of Sainte-Foy in penalties.
Year-long sports
- Men’s volleyball team begins competition in the RSEQ Division 2 Sud-Ouest league replacing the Co-Ed volleyball team.
- Division 2 Men’s Basketball finished in 1st place of their pool with 14 wins and 2 losses. They would have hosted a playoff game if the leagues would have kept going.
- Division 2 Women’s Basketball: qualified for the playoffs after a regular season of 12 wins and 2 losses. They would have hosted a playoff game if the leagues would have kept going.
- Badminton team goes undefeated in the regular season, 20 wins in 20 games.
- Division 1 Men’s Basketball team closes the regular season in 4th position, then proceeds to beat the Champlain St-Lambert Cavaliers in the ¼ final game to qualify for the Provincials. They lose to Vanier (semi-final) and Montmorency in the bronze medal game.
- Division 1 Men’s Basketball player Renoldo Robinson (pictured) is named the league Rookie of the Year and is voted to the 2nd all-star team.
- Division 1 Women’s Basketball team wins 15 of their 16 regular season games and finished in the 1st position of the regular season. After beating the Montmorency Nomades in the semi-final, they lose to the Sainte-Foy Dynamiques in the final of the provincials. Despite that loss, the team clinched a spot to represent the RSEQ at the CCAA Nationals for the fourth consecutive season. CCAA Nationals were cancelled a couple of days later due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- For a fourth consecutive year, D1 Women’s Coach Trevor Williams is voted Coach of the Year in the RSEQ Conference.
- Freshman Aïcha Dia is voted Rookie of the Year in the RSEQ Conference.
- Senior Taisha Exanor is voted Player of the Year in the RSEQ Conference.
- Exanor and her teammate Mackenzie Ash-Smith are named CCAA All-Canadians.
- Women’s Hockey team Justine Yelle is named for the second time Student-Athlete of the year in the RSEQ Division 1 Women’s Hockey League. She also won that Award last season.
Events
- The Athletics Department hosted for the 1st time since 2012 the RSEQ Division 1 Basketball Provincials with huge success.
