ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ÊÓƵ is hosting Brain Awareness Week March 11 – 17.

Brain Awareness Week (BAW) is a worldwide initiative aimed at igniting public interest and advocacy for brain sciences. Each March, institutions across the globe organize a variety of creative events within their communities.

These activities are designed to showcase the marvels of the brain and highlight the profound influence that brain science has on our daily experiences. This year many universities are marking this week with a series of events and Dawson is joining in on the action. We are proud to present the inaugural Women in Neuroscience guest speaker series, which will be open to the entire ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ÊÓƵ community.

We have invited Dr. Valorie Salimpoor on Wednesday, March 13 to talk to us virtually about the impact of music on the brain from 8:30 AM to 10 AM.  Use the link below to connect with us.

On Thursday, March 14, we have invited Dr. Andra Smith (uOttawa) from 10 AM to 11:30 AM to talk about Mindfulness, stress, and neuroscience in Oliver’s (2C.17).

To end the week, we have a very special Brain Bee student competition on Friday, March 15, from 2:30 PM to 4 PM in 3F.38. The competition tests the participants’ knowledge in neuroscience and the winners will be awarded coveted prizes. All students are welcome to participate.

And finally, we leave you with a poem about a brain imaging technique called Functional Imaging Technique (fMRI), written by Marie-Jeanne Lamontagne (a student in the Psychology profile). We hope this will convey the student’s excitement about brain sciences.

One day there was a game plan

They invented a machine called a fMRI scan

This thing was going to analyse the madmans

While curing our attention span

Thus the medical men

Came together to save our North Land

They were able to make their retirement plan

And all went on vacation for a nice tan

While this amazing invention began

That traveled from Japan to Afghanistan

Where all the doctors in the world created a clan

Called the fMRI stans

But they weren’t the only fans

Because you can also become part of the band

Just buy this amazing scan

Only 2.5 million$ dollars for this incredible gain

Mark your calendars and join us in celebrating the power of the brain!
