The Dawson golf tournament is making a comeback and it鈥檚 got a new name! After a two-year absence due to health concerns during the pandemic, the Dawson Golf Classic will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at the Summerlea Golf and Country Club (summerlea.com). The event will be carbon neutral.

Thanks to the support of the Dawson community, its partners and friends over the past 14 golf tournaments, Dawson has raised more than $500,000 for student aid and scholarships.

Even though the golf tournament has been suspended since 2020, the work of the Foundation to support Dawson students in pursuing their education and achieving success has remained steadfast.

This did not stop during the pandemic. The financial burden on many students caused by loss of part-time employment and other life challenges was lessened by Financial Aid that worked throughout the months to make sure students who needed assistance were helped. Support now is more vital than ever as the need is still great. Proceeds from this year鈥檚 tournament will provide the Financial Aid office with funds to help students in need throughout their studies.

The Dawson Golf Classic dedicated webpages will soon be launched at /golf/.

For Dawson employees, retirees and alumni passionate about golfing, they will be able to take advantage of a Dawson-friendly rate to play of $800 per foursome which includes brunch, driving range, golf, cocktail reception and dinner, plus a load of other goodies.

Single players can golf for $210 for the same package, and those interested in supporting, but who don鈥檛 want to golf, can buy a dinner ticket for $100. Tax receipts are available for pro-rated amounts in all categories.

Sponsorship opportunities for foursomes and affiliated companies will be presented via personal contact with details also be on the webpages.

The role of the Dawson Foundation: what is it for?

The Foundation serves two purposes: first, to create opportunities for supporters, friends, allies and partners to raise funds for Dawson projects involving students, faculty and staff, as well as benefiting Dawson students directly through awards, scholarships and financial aid; and second, to collect and invest those funds wisely and responsibly to build equity for the best return on investment so that our students and our projects can continue to benefit.

A strong Foundation makes for a strong College. The recent setbacks we have suffered politically has created an urgent need for Dawson to show strength and resolve in the face of adversity. We have achieved this before and we will again.
