Students who founded IndigeSTEM peer tutoring project recognized by Forces Avenir

Currently, Rotshenn贸n:ni Two-Axe and Kayla Spencer-Young are two of a handful of Indigenous students in Dawson鈥檚 Science Program.

Rotshenn贸n:ni and Kayla wanted to encourage and support their fellow Indigenous students who may be interested in Science. They came up with an idea last semester that has won them the local award and put them in the running for the provincial award, which will be announced at an event in Quebec City in September.

It’s the first-ever SPACE Week at Dawson

It鈥檚 the first-ever SPACE (Sciences Participating with Arts and Culture in Education) Week at Dawson!

From robotics demos to a collective drawing activity, the entire Dawson community is invited to experience exhibitions, project displays, interactive activities and more presented by the student enrichment initiative SPACE, which promotes exploration, discussion, and collaboration beyond the classroom and across disciplines.

As part of this week, Dawson Science student Michael Bomba unveiled an electric guitar he built from scratch in tribute to the Fender Broadcaster, or "The Blackguard", which was the prototype for the first mass-produced solid-body electric guitars in the late '40s.

Dawson students and teacher shine in the Forces Avenir recognition program

The provincial Forces Avenir recognition program is back at Dawson after several years鈥� absence. Colleges and CEGEPs in Qu茅bec, as a group, chose not to participate until the process of nomination and selection was streamlined. For the first time in a long time, the program is back at the CEGEP level.

The provisions contained in 鈥檚 proposed legislation are wide-ranging and have according to a document released by the Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN). It states that the bill is 鈥渁n unprecedented attempt to override the fundamental freedoms, equality, and legal rights of Quebecers."

Students unveil AI work during academic research partnership with Ciena

Eight Dawson students have presented the work they have been doing at ScienceFest 2022 as interns as part of DawsonAI鈥檚 collaboration with industry partner Ciena, a postdoctoral researcher and university partners from Concordia and 脡TS to promote the study of innovative AI-enabled applications for the future of 5G in Canada.

Award-winning women’s rights advocate Dr. Alaa Murabit on SDGs and global health

The award-winning global security strategist, women's rights advocate, and medical doctor, Dr. Alaa Murabit, is one of the leading global health and inclusive security experts of her generation. Her work has helped develop policies in 193 countries and impacted the lives of billions, and yet, she never intended to become an advocate.

On April 27, she came to Dawson as an Earth Week keynote speaker to share how her career came about, and her pivotal work on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Red Dresses needed for May 5 MMIWG2S Day

On May 5, the First Peoples鈥� Centre will be commemorating the National Day of Awareness and Action for MMIWG2S. They are asking for your help in gathering red dresses (all sizes 鈥� child and adult) for an exhibit. If you have any dresses to donate, please bring them to the First Peoples鈥� Centre (3E.15) before 12 p.m. on Thursday. Register for golf tournament at friendly Dawson rates

Registration is now open for the 15th Edition of the Dawson Golf Classic taking place on Tuesday, June 7. Proceeds will go to the Financial Aid Office to help reduce the financial burden on students as the cost of living increases.

Dawson employees, retirees and alumni benefit from friendly prices. Single tickets cost $210, foursomes are $800 and a dinner-only ticket is $100.聽The day includes a brunch, driving range practice, golf, a cocktail reception and dinner at Summerlea Golf & Country Club in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

D Announcements coming May 11

Dawson's Communications Office is aiming to launch a new communications tool called D Announcements on May 11. This will be an email that comes out on Wednesdays in between issues of D News. Like a virtual bulletin board, it will be very brief and point form and include news briefs, announcements and links to the . The plan is that it will be distributed by email and live on the Dawson website. This is the pilot phase of the project. You can submit your information in point form to commsoffice@dawsoncollege.qc.ca

More than 50 species of birds have been spotted on Dawson grounds and we would like to invite new and experienced birdwatchers to come and help identify migrating and resident species that have stopped to eat or rest on Dawson鈥檚 green city block. With your help, we can add more birds to our list!

Learning Communities winter semester update

Three new Learning Community projects are in development this Winter 2022 semester.聽 Two projects,聽Physics for Physiotherapy听补苍诲听Inter-professional Education, illustrate the continued expansion of LC curriculum development to career programs, specifically in the medical technologies, where collaboration between program and contributing discipline faculty aims to optimize student learning.聽 A third project,聽LCs for Small Social Science Disciplines, is developing a new model for pairing courses by way of a common time-block, a complementary theme, and integrative learning activities.

Catherine Payne nominated as DALChampion

In celebration of its 10th anniversary, the Dawson Active Learning Community (DALC) has named 10 of its faculty members 鈥淒ALChampions鈥� in honour of their extraordinary contributions to innovating the classroom experience.

DALC is a group of teachers from various disciplines that strives to improve teaching and learning through Active Learning (AL) pedagogical practices, and the development, design, and effective use of complementary educational technologies.

Academic Skills Centre pivots towards hybrid learning

As Dawson transitions to increased in-person activities, the Academic Skills Centre continues to demonstrate its flexibility and resilience by expanding the hybrid services that they offer. Among the first services at Dawson to adapt to online learning in March 2020, the ASC offers in-person and online professional and peer tutoring services for students through its WC Online appointment scheduling software.

Humanities and Public Life Conference 2022: Crisis, conflict and resolution

The 星空传媒视频 Humanities & Public Life Conference is an annual conference that introduces CEGEP students to the ambiance, culture, and discovery of academic conferences.聽 We aim to provide a bridge between great ideas, new research, and exciting debates, as well as showcasing how the questions we tackle in the Humanities are relevant to concrete, real-world situations. Women鈥檚/Gender Studies Certificate

In Fall 2022, the Women鈥檚/Gender Studies Certificate will once again be offering its foundational Learning Communities course GENDER MATTERS (see description and course competency in the Read More link). Kim Simard from Cinema-Communications will be leading a group of faculty volunteers from across different disciplines. The goal is to offer a Learning Communities experience to W/GS students that deepens their appreciation of the rich interdisciplinary nature of this field, while creating an academic hub for the certificate that brings diverse students and teachers together.

After Fuenteovejuna

The Professional Theatre Department at 星空传媒视频 is proud to present After Fuenteovejuna, adapted by the third-year students with writer Sarah Lotfi and directed by St茅phane Zarov with Movement Direction by Mila Th茅. Originally performed in 17th-century Spain, this classic theatre includes clowning, music, dance and storytelling. When the small town of Fuenteovejuna is terrorized by a military commander, the women of the town band together to seek revenge. This modern retelling includes music composted by third year students Reagan Prum, Brianna Rodrigues,聽 Noah Moorcroft and Andr茅as Sandoval Chaidoullina

Content warnings: sexual assault, sexual violence, swearing. Wed May 4-Saturday May 7.

Entry fee for Dawson employees and students = $5.

2022 Winner of the Liberal Arts Brick Books Poetry Prize

The Liberal Arts Brick Books Poetry Prize is聽awarded this year to聽Catherine Salkeld聽for showing promise in poetry writing.

Catherine鈥檚 winning sonnet, 鈥淗allowed Ground鈥欌€� will be published in the 2022 Liberal Arts Anthology. The prize, sponsored for the past eight years by Canadian poetry publisher Brick Books,聽will be awarded at the launch of the Anthology on May 12.
