Check out Artists in Bloom artworks now; bidding opens April 21 at 6 p.m.

Artists in Bloom is back! The online auction and pre-orders of digital prints begin April 21 at 6 p.m. and will run until Thursday, April 28, at 6 p.m. at . Pre-orders of digital prints can also be made in person at Dawson in the Upper Atrium from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 22, and April 25-28.

The artworks created by our talented student artists from the 3D Animation & Computer Generated Imagery and Illustration programs are all loaded up on the website 鈥� Check them out now and/or register in advance to bid!

Announcing Vernissage Season 2022!

For the first time since 2019, graduating students in the Creative and Applied Arts will be exhibiting their works at 星空传媒视频 during the much-anticipated Vernissage Season. The work of students in Visual Arts, Illustration, Professional Photography, Industrial Design, 3D Animation and Computer Generated Imagery, Interior Design and Graphic Design will be exhibited from late May through early June. Dates and times will be in the next D News on May 4.

Sydney Kormos-Springer wins award given in her uncle Rob Springer鈥檚 memory

Long before she arrived at 星空传媒视频, Sydney Kormos-Springer decided she would aim to win the Rob Springer Memorial Award.

鈥淲hen I learned that Dawson was having a memorial game in honour of my uncle, I wanted to make it my goal to go to 星空传媒视频 and play for him,鈥� the Health Science student said in an interview with Dawson鈥檚 Communications Office. 鈥淚 wanted to be able to keep his legacy alive and honour him as well as my family. My uncle, in a way, taught me how to persevere and accomplish anything I set my mind to.鈥�

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the Dawson Active Learning Community (DALC) has named 10 of its faculty members "DALChampions" in honour of their extraordinary contributions to innovating the classroom experience. This week, we asked two of the nominees, Valerie Simmons (Professional Photography) and Jean-Fran莽ois Bri猫re (Physics Department), about their experiences with the community of practice.

Student with passionate desire to make a difference receives Lieutenant-Governor Youth Medal

For Arwen Low, it was very meaningful to receive the Youth Medal from the Lieutenant-Governor of Quebec and it was also inspiring to see the service of other youth leaders throughout the Montreal region be recognized at a ceremony in early April.

鈥淚 feel so lucky for the support from the Dawson community,鈥� she said in an interview with Dawson鈥檚 Communications Office, adding that serving at Dawson has been 鈥渟uch a joy. I am so grateful for the incredible friends and mentors I have found in the Dawson Student Union (DSU), the 星空传媒视频 Model UN (DCMUN) team and clubs, who inspire me to push myself further and take on new projects.鈥�

Active and caring International Business Studies student receives Lieutenant-Governor Youth Medal

Shirin Hinojosa-Violante feels that receiving the Lieutenant-Governor of Quebec鈥檚 Youth Medal is recognition for everything she has done up until now.

鈥淏eing nominated by my peers among so many talented students was an honour,鈥� she told Dawson鈥檚 Communications Office in an interview. 鈥淏eing selected and winning the award went beyond my expectations. Community service and being able to help those around me has always been a passion of mine.鈥�

On Wednesday morning, Nobel Peace Prize nominee and Inuit activist Sheila Watt-Cloutier spoke at Dawson as an Earth Week keynote speaker. Her talk passionately unpacked the deep interconnection of today鈥檚 most pressing issues. From climate change to its impacts on Inuit life and communities around the world, Sheila shed light on colonialism's long-lasting and ongoing effects on the environment, economy, foreign policy, and global health, before paving the way forward.

Your input is needed for the strat plan

The process of developing the new strategic plan for Dawson is underway.

Leanne Bennett, Dean of Science, Medical Studies & Engineering and a member of the Strategic Planning Working Group, will meet sector councils over the next few weeks to provide an overview of the strategic planning process and to encourage departments to discuss the important topic of student success. Katherine McWhaw, Coordinator of Quality Assurance and Planning and also a member of the Working Group, will engage in the same process with various College services.

Social Science students pitch SDG projects for Dawson

As part of Earth Week, Social Science students from the Integrative Seminar class lined up in the Upper Atrium to present their research findings and recommendations on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in post-secondary institutions. Students were asked to look into how colleges and universities are working to meet certain SDGs, before relating them to Dawson with their own sustainable project ideas.

Third-year Theatre students star in After Fuenteovejuna

The Professional Theatre Department at 星空传媒视频 is proud to present After Fuenteovejuna, adapted by the third-year students with writer Sarah Lotfi and directed by St茅phane Zarov. Originally performed in 17th-century Spain, this classic theatre includes clowning, music, dance and storytelling, with some audience interaction.

Content warnings: sexual assault, sexual violence, swearing. The show runs April 25 - May 7. Entry fee for Dawson employees and students = $5

What you can expect to learn in the Jack.org talk:

The basics of mental health, personal stories from trained youth speakers, how to recognize signs of struggle in your students and much more.

Support Interior Design students for a chance to win hockey tickets

The Interior Design students are currently organizing a raffle to help raise funds for their final exhibition. You could win two hockey tickets to watch the Canadiens vs. the Panthers on April 29 at the Bell Centre. Situated in section 115, they have a value of over $500!

All the proceeds will go toward our end-of-year exhibition. This event allows students to showcase their final Interior Design project, after three years of very hard work. This event serves as an official introduction of these future designers to the design field. The event will take place on June 2, and is open to the public. You鈥檙e invited!

The raffle tickets are $10 each, or in a bundle of 3 for $25 or 5 for $45. You can visit our table in the Upper Atrium on April 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Alternatively, you can visit Helen in 2G.7 and purchase tickets before April 25. The winner will be announced on聽 April 26, so buy your tickets while you still can!

Tuesdays: 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Wednesdays: 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
