Learning about the Indigeneity of maple syrup

In an effort to Indigenize curriculum and re-Indigenize a small piece of occupied Tiohtià:ke (Montreal), students, staff, and faculty from the First Peoples Centre and the Decolonization and Indigenization Studies Certificate launched the Wáhta Óshes (maple syrup) project last March to share the Indigenous roots of making maple syrup.

15th edition of newly renamed Golf Classic is set to go

The Dawson golf tournament is making a comeback and it’s got a new name! After a two-year absence due to health concerns during the pandemic, the Dawson Golf Classic will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at the.

Thanks to the support of the Dawson community, its partners and friends over the past 14 golf tournaments, Dawson has raised more than $500,000 for student aid and scholarships.

Even though the golf tournament has been suspended since 2020, the work of the Foundation to support Dawson students in pursuing their education and achieving success has remained steadfast.

First-year student wins research bursary for work with Adaptech Research Network

First-year Dawson Social Science student ´¡²ú¾±²µ²¹Ã«±ô±ô±ð Vasseur is one of seven CEGEP students in Quebec to win a bursary for research work this winter semester. joined Dawson’s Adaptech Research Network and it was through this work that she won a Bourse pour stage d’initiation à la recherche pour la relève au collegial, valued at $3,000, from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture.

Honour the life of Joe Rose with AR

Joe Rose was a Dawson nursing student and AIDS activist who wanted to start a Montreal edition of ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power), an international grassroots political group that is working to end the AIDS pandemic. While attending Dawson in 1985, he founded the Etcetera Club, a safe space for LGBT students. On March 19, 1989, he was brutally murdered by four teenagers as he got off a city bus.

To honour his story, the local activist and multi-media artist will be guiding a series of workshops over the upcoming weeks to support students in the creation of an augmented reality (AR) ‘vignette’ — texts, photos, and videos — so people can learn about Joe’s legacy.

This workshop will share impactful practices on three stages of in-class group work: before, during, and after the activity. Participants will leave with new insight, concrete ideas, and new questions about how to make teamwork come alive in the classroom.

Psychology Profile celebrates Brain Day April 8

On April 8, the Psychology Profile is organizing two events that celebrate the advances in brain science and promote awareness of the mind, body and mental health connection.

The first event is a guest talk by Dr. Mike RobinsonÌý²¹³ÙÌý10:05 a.m. (via Zoom).  His talk entitled "Generating Excessive Desire by Optogenetic Stimulation of the Central Amygdala" will be hosted in the context of a General Psychology class. All are welcome to join us at 10:05. Email psychology@dawsoncollege.qc.ca to get the Zoom link. In case you can't make it, you will still have an opportunity to view the talk a little later in our Psychology STREAM Channel (link in Read More).

The second event of the day will be a Trivia Game held at 2:30 p.m. in room 3F.38. Students who wish to participate will have to register by contacting psychology@dawsoncollege.qc.ca. Winners will earn fantastic prizes.

Appointments for Academic Skills Centre now on Omnivox

To make an appointment with an Academic Skills Centre professional, a peer tutor, or to register for a workshop, students will need to log into Omnivox and click on WCOnline under the Student Services menu on the left near the bottom of the menu.

Students will no longer have to remember a separate website address and password. We will continue to use the same scheduling system, so students should be familiar with it, but it is now integrated with Omnivox through single sign-on.

The separate scheduling access point that you may remember (dawsoncollege.mywconline.com) is no longer available for students. Even though we have contacted all our users, you may encounter students confused by the change, so we would appreciate if you could help them during this transition. ­

Save the date for Dawson’s Recognition of Service

It’s finally time to celebrate! We will have a special celebration the evening of Thursday, June 16 to recognize all those who have retired and all those who have arrived at the major milestone of 25 years of service to Dawson since July 1, 2019.

The evening will include a cocktail hour and a dinner. Dawson’s traditional Recognition of Service aims to treat our long-serving and dedicated employees to a very special night.

Invitations will be sent in May.

is a French-language platform which provides full-text access to French-language popular magazines (nine), scholarly journals (500+), and e-books (14,000+) on topics ranging across the humanities and social sciences. Popular magazine titles include Pour la science, Cerveau & psycho, and Sciences humaines.

Create a Cairn account () and build reading lists, retrieve consulted articles, get weekly newsletters of new content, and follow authors and/or journals to be alerted when they publish something new.

Dawson students are K-Pop champions

Congrats to our Dawson K-pop dancers who brought home the trophy after last week’s Intercollegiate K-Pop Triple Crown Dance Competition (KTCD)!

Students who performed this year are part of the local K-Pop dance performance group and for the first time ever, competed live against Champlain College, John Abbott College, Marianopolis College, and Vanier College.

Blues Div. 1 men’s basketball team get bronze at Nationals

The Dawson Blues Div. 1 Men's Basketball team won bronze at the CCAA National Championships!
After a great week in which they got stronger with each game, the Blues defeated VIU Mariners 99-74 in the Bronze Medal Game March 27.
