Butterflies being released every day at 12 p.m.

The Monarch butterfly chrysalises were all adopted by Dawson teams and employees, including a few first-timers. As of today, 93 have been tagged and released in the Peace Garden.

Come enjoy a wonderful moment with the butterflies every day at the Peace Garden (near Sherbrooke and Wood corner of the campus) at 12 p.m. Many of the remaining chrysalises are quite advanced- so make a plan to see them this Thursday or Friday.

About 1,200 plants and trees were installed inside the main building of 星空传媒视频 during the last 12 months. A major delivery of plants arrived during the first week of classes.

Peace Week begins Sept. 13

The 6th Annual Peace Week kicks off on Monday, Sept. 13 with two very special outdoor activities: an introduction to Sustainable Happiness with Jennifer de Vera as well as an opportunity to learn and work in the urban gardens.

Peace Centre updates

Federal Election Debate - virtual with the candidates from Ville Marie-Sud Ouest: Sept. 9 at 2:30 pm. Topic: Climate Change & the Environment. This will be a 75-minute debate with an opportunity at the end for students to ask questions of the candidates. Faculty who are interested in streaming this into their class should contact Diana Rice or Catherine Braithwaite.

Interested in engaging your students in decolonization and reconciliation? 聽In preparation for Sept. 30, the National Day of Mourning of victims and survivors of the Residential Schools, there will be a series of events open to the community to provide educational awareness of the legacy of colonialism as well as joy and resurgence in Indigenous communities across Turtle Island.

One of the best first steps is to engage with a Blanket Exercise. This is an interactive learning activity which brings participants through the course of Indigenous history from pre-contact to present day. This interactive session is de鈥媠igned to bring participants together to build a shared factual understanding of the legacy of colonization in Turtle Island.聽 We look forward to seeing you.

The great need for blood has not been changed by COVID. What has changed is the need to make an appointment to give blood. The Dawson community has been a generous partner of H茅ma-Qu茅bec for 50 years now.

Tuesday, Sept. 14: 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and
Wednesday, Sept. 15: 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Michelle Smith is an Indigenous Vanier Scholar

In July, Michelle E. Smith (Faculty, Cinema l Communications) was named an Indigenous Vanier Scholar of McGill University.

Michelle's reaction to the news: "I was very excited, very surprised, extremely happy; when I read the acceptance letter my heart was beating so fast it felt like it was jumping out of my chest. I am really happy that the Vanier committee got behind me and my research."

Donna Varrica appointed Communications Coordinator

Donna Varrica, Dawson鈥檚 former Communications Coordinator (2001-2019), will be back in her position for a period of six months to a year which began on Monday, replacing Megan Ainscow. Since leaving Dawson, she has worked on various communications and teaching projects with Concordia University, 脡cole Polytechnique, the English Montreal School Board, and the Institut de recherche clinique de Montr茅al. Happy to be back, she is looking forward to reconnecting with the community and meeting the new and evolving challenges the College will face in the next several months.

Parents Night is Sept. 8

Parents Night is set for Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 7 to 8 p.m. and invitations to parents of first-year students have been sent.

This is an opportunity for parents to learn more about the College. It will be a webinar Q&A with a variety of representatives from the College. If you need more information, contact the Communications Office.

Facilities Management

Access to washrooms

The Facilities Management team has another update about access to washrooms during renovations in the G and H wings.

The washrooms in 1H and 2H are in service.

Temporary toilet stalls and sinks are also available in the 2G, 4G, 2H and 4H washrooms. These particular washrooms are gender inclusive.
