Updates to Policy for a Smoke-Free College

January 26th, 2021

The Policy for a Smoke-Free College was updated in November. The main changes to the policy are:

  • Progressive sanctions for students and employees, including fines
  • Cannabis is prohibited
  • Roles and responsibilities have been updated
  • Third-hand smoke (residue that remains on objects) is included
  • Tips and support available for employees through Human Resources and for students through College Nurse Julie Drolet
  • What to do if a student is vaping/smoking during a Zoom class

Students encourage teachers to use Sustainable Happiness in class at Ped Days

At Ped Days on Jan. 20, the tables were turned as students taught teachers for the first time at the annual professional development event for teachers.

Four final-year CRLT students shared Sustainable Happiness with teachers in the hopes of making students and teachers in virtual classrooms more connected, engaged and happy.

Professionals & support staff can sign up for Sustainable Happiness

January 26th, 2021

Professionals and support staff, there is an opportunity to take the 24-hour Certificate in Sustainable Happiness (SH) Course this semester. The program will run Feb. 12 through April 9 on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will be introduced to the concept of Sustainable Happiness and explore its implications, both personally and professionally. This is an experiential and applied certificate.

Key topics include: sustainability, connecting with Nature, positive psychology, well-being, happiness, and healthy/sustainable lifestyles. All participants must complete a project that benefits the well-being of themselves, others and/or the planet to obtain the certificate.

Some examples of successfully completed projects last semester were plant-based recipe books, yoga / meditation challenges, going on daily dates with Nature, 30 days of acts of kindness, plant giveaways, vertical gardens at home, family wellness and a zero waste challenge.

Dawson reacts to AASHE gold in new video

Still a few days to participate in Amnesty International’s write-a-thon

December 15th, 2020

On Thursday, Dec. 10, 10 Dawson students and faculty marked the International Day of Human Rights withÌýAmnesty International's write-a-thon (), which aims to bring attention to 10 cases of injustice around the world.

Since 2000,Ìý75% of the 169 people who have been targeted for this campaign have been freed!ÌýÌýIn one hour, we were able to complete letters for approximately 5 out of the 10 cases highlighted, which will amount to over 50 letters, and will contribute to the thousands that were written from people all over the world.

Dawson gets GOLD for leadership in sustainability

It's official! AASHE announced ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ÊÓƵ's GOLD rating for leadership in sustainability on their ÌýCongratulations Dawson community!

We have been collecting reactions by video and text to the news in preparation for this week's announcement. We will be proudly sharing these thoughts from Dawson employees, government leaders and people active in environmental issues with the media this week.

DCHC Physio clinic reopens Jan. 11

The ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ÊÓƵ Health Clinic (DCHC) physio will be re-opening Jan. 11, 2021. The third-year students of the Physiotherapy Technology Program are eager to assist you with your rehabilitation needs. This service is available to the public so please share with your friends and family.

Guest psychologist on stress of pandemic on college students

The Psychology Profile invited Dr. Nafissa Ismail to speak yesterday about the effects of the pandemic and confinementÌýon college students. She isÌýa psychology professor and researcher at the University of Ottawa. Her area of expertise examines the impact of stressors during different periods of development and their profound long-lasting effects on brain function.Ìý
