Students tackle climate change by building wetland as part of unique Phys. Ed. course

A class of over 25 students reclaimed a concrete heat island on Dawson鈥檚 urban campus by transforming it into a wetland as part of a unique-in-Canada Physical Education course. The brand-new Eco-Landscaping course was co-developed by Dawson鈥檚 Physical Education Department and the Sustainability Office.

Make your appointment to donate blood Sept. 13-14

September 7th, 2022

H茅ma-Qu茅bec will be running a blood donor clinic at Dawson on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 13-14 in 3C.1.

It will be by appointment only. You can make an appointment online: or by calling 1-800-343-7264.

The objective is to get 60 donors and they are especially in need of O- and B- blood donors. Each donor can save several lives with only one donation and their body will quickly replenish their blood supply.

Influence of Dawson’s Living Campus

Dawson鈥檚 Living Campus concept has influenced other schools and organizations to become Living Schools, Work Places and even Churches/Places of Worship.

Rev. Neil Whitehouse of Westmount Park United Church wrote a letter to the editor in the to congratulate Dawson on being recognized as a leader in sustainability:

Monarch Butterfly project brings joy and builds Dawson community

In an annual tradition that never fails to awe employees and students with the beauty of Nature, the Sustainability Office distributed 100 Monarch Butterfly chrysalises to employees throughout the College, including to the staff of the First-Year Students鈥 Office, pictured.

鈥淭aking care of the butterflies together helps us take care of each other and Nature,鈥 said Jenn de Vera, project lead. 鈥淭his is the most wonderful time of the year at Dawson! Our priority is to involve new people every year and spread the joy.鈥

At the time of publishing D News, a little more than half the chrysalises had eclosed and all were expected to eclose by the weekend. Every day at 12 p.m. this week, butterflies will be released in the Peace Garden. All are welcome.
