One new bird species spotted at Dawson during May birdwatching mornings

In total, 14 people showed up for two early-morning birdwatching events at Dawson last month.

鈥淎lthough it was unusually cold and migration delayed because of the cold spring, we managed to identify 15 species and add one new species to the Dawson Bird List: a house finch, bringing the total species seen to 55 on campus. A red-tailed hawk and pileated woodpecker were among the highlights,鈥 reported organizer Chris Adam of the Sustainability Office.

A nesting robin is also present in one of the trees, Chris noted. The photo of a chipping sparrow was captured another year by Doug Smyth of Physical Education. The chipping sparrow has nested successfully in the Peace Garden area for three years now.


Swap Your Stuff: new Dawson community Yammer channel

As moving season approaches for many, it鈥檚 a good time to let you know that there is a new Yammer group for the Dawson community called Swap Your Stuff- 星空传媒视频. College Nurse Julie Gosselin created it as her final project for her Sustainable Happiness course this year.

鈥淚t's basically an online platform to help people find, donate or swap their gently used stuff. Everything has to be free and it is meant to encourage solidarity and reuse聽amongst 星空传媒视频 community members, both staff and students,鈥 Julie explained.

Flame of Hope to arrive at Dawson鈥檚 Peace Garden June 6

June 1st, 2022

A casual gathering/interfaith prayer with the , a symbol of the desire for peace around the world, will take place at Dawson's Peace Garden on Monday, June 6 at 2 p.m.

Ivan Freud of the Peace Studies Certificate will be there to welcome the Flame of Hope and the Dawson Community is invited to join him.

The Flame of Hope arrived in North America in the fall and was blessed at St. Joseph鈥檚 Oratory before going on to the U.S.

Dawson community enjoyed being together again at BBQ

It was so nice to have a big Dawson community event for the first time in more than two years! More than 800 students and employees were treated to ice cream and almost the same number enjoyed a BBQ meal outside on campus May 10. Food was served by our cafeteria staff and from food trucks and there was live music.
