Plans for Orange Shirt Day leading up to Sept. 30

June 1st, 2022

This fall, Dawson will host several events leading up to, and in observance of Sept. 30, Orange T-Shirt Day-National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

A dedicated team of students, faculty, professionals, and support staff, in consultation with Indigenous advisors, will organize these events with the goal of providing learning opportunities and raising awareness about decolonization and the importance of this day.

Support (resources, ideas, suggestions for speakers) is available for faculty who would like to include the theme of residential schools, the Truth and Reconciliation Report, or other decolonization topics in their course.

Director General Diane Gauvin and Academic Dean Rob Cassidy wish to warmly welcome everyone back after summer holidays on Wednesday, Aug. 17 with a Dawson community lunch. It will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will take place in 3C.1.


Flame of Hope to arrive at Dawson’s Peace Garden June 6

A casual gathering/interfaith prayer with the , a symbol of the desire for peace around the world, will take place at Dawson's Peace Garden on Monday, June 6 at 2 p.m.

Ivan Freud of the Peace Studies Certificate will be there to welcome the Flame of Hope and the Dawson Community is invited to join him.

The Flame of Hope arrived in North America in the fall and was blessed at St. Joseph’s Oratory before going on to the U.S.


Greater demand to attend graduation

There was an overwhelming response from graduating students indicating they plan to attend the graduation ceremony at Place des Arts on June 22. As a result, the Communications Office had to make some major changes to the proceedings, including the addition of a third ceremony at 10 a.m.

By the deadline to respond, over 800 about-to-be Dawson graduates had RSVP'd yes! Many of these students were deprived of their high school graduation in 2020. The last time Dawson had an in-person graduation was in June 2019.


ALC Festival 2022 “Unfolds” until May 20

To unfold is to smooth surfaces, to disclose what is or has been hidden from view, revealing secrets and potentials.

The ALC Festival is a celebration and exhibition of projects by graduating students from the six profiles of the Arts, Literature and Communications Program. This year, the festival, happening May 5-20, presents the creative works that ALC students made back in March 2020, their first semester of in-person learning, andcelebrates the opening up and continuation of our lives as the pandemic starts to wane.

While most events have passed, you can still check out the innovative works of art from the Kaleidoscope and Գ󲹲Գé exhibitions in the 5C hallways!

Visual Arts Vernissage May 19

The opening of The Grove, the2022 Dawson Visual Arts Program Graduating Exhibition will be on Thursday, May 19, from 5:30 to 8:00 pm in the Warren G. Flowers Art Gallery and 2G wing.


Welcome Week for new students begins August 12

May 18th, 2022

This year Welcome Week will take place on August 12, 15, 16 and 17.

New students will have the chance to get a tour of the campus as well as the opportunity to meet their Dean. Students will be able to attend presentations on programs/profiles and learn about the services offered at Dawson. Free ice cream will also be served to students.

The theme for the 2022 SALTISE Conference is Collaborative Dialogues: The Role of Active Learning in Today’s Educational Realities. The conference brings together educators who are passionate about active learning.

The conference will be hybrid this year and take place June 2-3.

Hybrid: AEC Commercial Photography Vernissage May 24

After two years of study, dedication and hard work through the COVID storm, we have now come to the end of the road, about to proudly show off the result.

Don't miss “HYBRID”, an exhibition featuring Dawson's AEC Commercial Photography graduates.

The exhibition will be presented in the Upper Atrium from Monday, May 23 to Friday, May 27 and you are invited to attend the Vernissage on May 24 at 6:30 p.m.
