Dawson’s health students learning together through Interprofessional Education

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ÊÓƵ may be in the news this week because funding for a new pavilion was scuttled by the Quebec government, but the driving principles behind the need and purpose of the facility remain for an innovative, unique-in-Quebec Interprofessional Education Pedagogy (IPE) project.

Eudaimonia open until Feb. 19 at the Gallery

After almost two years, Dawson’s 2020 Visual Arts graduates are pleased to present how their practices have flourished and prospered, while staying true to their understanding of eudaimonia.*

Twenty graduates from the 2020 Visual Arts cohort present work in media ranging from digital photography to sculpture, painting, drawing, and video at the Warren G. Flowers Art Gallery from Jan. 27 to Feb. 19, 2022.

* Aristotle utilized eudaimonia as the term for the highest human good, an objective standard of ‘happiness’ based on what it means to live a human life well. The title is the same as the original graduating 2020 exhibition, which could only happen online due to the first lockdown.

2020 Nursing grad Francesca Robinson wins major bursary from OIIQ

Perseverance and a desire to serve her community have distinguished Francesca Robinson (Dawson Class of 2020, Nursing). After dropping out at age 16, Francesca completed high school and had her first child during the same year. She went on to study Nursing at Dawson and graduated early with the rest of her Class of 2020 cohort so they could help care for Quebecers during the pandemic. Last month, Francesca was named one of the first two recipients of the bourse d'études Noëllette-Drouin of the Fondation de l'Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ).

Meet Elaine Gusella, Dawson’s new IVGD co-coordinator

Elaine Gusella is living out her professional dreams as the new co-coordinator of the Independent Video Game Design (IVGD) AEC Program at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ÊÓƵ and as a partner in Artifact 5, an independent video game studio.

SPACE students win the Astro Prize at the McGill Physics Hackathon

Dawson students once again took part in the McGill Physics Hackathon which took place this year on November 6-7. The goal of the friendly computer programming competition was simple: to welcome everyone into the wonderful world of scientific computing!

Over a 24-hour period, participants had the opportunity to work on projects combining the physical sciences and computing, and to meet and learn from like-minded, curious, and passionate individuals as well as with experts from both academia and industry.

A team of mainly Dawson students—Shawn Maor, Syphax Ramdani, Joey Yu—won the Astrophysics prize for their project, Star Formation, and were awarded telescopes! A write-up of their experience can be found on the SPACE website:

The students also earned credits towards the new SPACE: Arts and Sciences Certificate by competing and creating a project for the hackathon.


Selma Hamdani & Joel Trudeau receive their AQPC mention d’honneur awards

Selma Hamdani (Coordinator of the Psychology Profile) and Joel Trudeau (Coordinator of the SPACE Certificate) were celebrated by the at a special awards ceremony on Nov. 20. Joel received a mention d’honneur for teaching and pedagogy in 2020 and Selma received the same honour in 2021.

Finally, a proper celebration was possible to highlight Selma and Joel’s high quality of work, contribution to the evolution of teaching, and daily dedication to best practices. ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ÊÓƵ was proud to share this news on our social media channels last week:


Celebrating our Fall Awards Recipients

We are proud to celebrate our Fall 2021 Awards cohort of 35 exceptional ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ÊÓƵ students. Their involvement in student life, commitment to community service and determination to succeed at CEGEP enrich the Dawson community and make us hopeful about the future. Congratulations to our students! Thank you to all the donors, teachers and employees who make the awards possible.

Pictured: Radhika Khera, one of the 2021 recipients of the Aditya Youth Trust Fund Scholarship, with Academic Dean Rob Cassidy. In lieu of an Awards Ceremony, all recipients were invited in late November to have professional photos taken with the Academic Dean and pick up their awards and a small gift.
