Honourable mentions for Dawson students at Harvard鈥檚 Model UN

Thirty-six 星空传媒视频 students travelled to Boston in mid-February to participate in Harvard National Model United Nations. The conference, one of the world's longest-running and most prestigious UN simulations, brought together over 1,200 college and university students from over 30 countries.

CRLT’s Simeon Pompey wins national golf honour

Simeon Pompey (Faculty, Community, Recreation and Leadership Training) has received national recognition for using the game of golf in a way to inspire and contribute to his community!
On Feb. 21, Simeon was named one of two recipients of the 2023 Lorie Kane Community Spirit Awards given by Golf Canada:
"Pompey earned the 2023 Lorie Kane Community Leader Award for his continuous devotion to helping others in his community through the sport of golf. Pompey has been a long-time supporter of First Tee which led him to be at the heart of the program鈥檚 success in Montr茅al since the launch of First Tee 鈥 Premier d茅辫补谤迟 Quebec in 2021. He has also played a key role in the launch of golf programming in the Indigenous community of Kahnawake, on the south shore of Montr茅al."

Student wins Silver for Quebec in Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge

It is a pleasure to announce that Sohon Ye, first-year student in Enriched Science obtained the Silver Award - Quebec 鈥 Championship, Silver Award - Quebec - Grade 12 or CEGEP in the Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge organized by the Canadian Mathematical Society.
The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) is Canada鈥檚 premier national mathematics competition open to any student with an interest in, and grasp of, high school math. It is the most prestigious math competition in Canada, and one of the most prestigious in the Americas. The COMC is the only way to be invited to the CMS鈥 free, exclusive training camps and compete internationally as part of Math Team Canada!
Sohon was invited to write the Canadian Math Olympiad this year on March 7. Andreea Panait, math teacher and Coordinator of external math competitions at Dawson since 2007, said: "It is an excellent result which is hard to obtain. In my experience of almost 20 years, we have had only one student with a similar result. We are very proud to have Sohon as one of our students in the Science program. In the coming weeks we will be preparing for the Canadian Math Olympiad."

6th annual SPACE writing competition: winners and honourable mentions

In 2023-2024, SPACE held its sixth annual writing competition. Students from all disciplines across 星空传媒视频 were invited to submit writing that offered a personal interpretation of this year鈥檚 theme,听.听The submissions were divided into three categories鈥攑rose (fiction and creative non-fiction), poetry and essay鈥攁nd were judged in a blind fashion by Lois Valliant (retired Faculty, Fine Arts) and Hannah Rahimi (Faculty, English).
Entries were evaluated according to originality and depth of thought, style, arts-sciences connections and relation to the theme. The winners received gift certificates from Argo Bookstore, and the winners and honourable mentions have been published and highlighted on the SPACE website. Free Video Game Playtesting Event on Feb. 23

The Independent Video Game Design program is presenting a new edition of its bimonthly indie game playtesting event in room 3C.1 of 星空传媒视频 on Friday, Feb. 23 from 6 PM to 9 PM.
The Playtest @ IVGD event will showcase over a dozen new independent video games created by local developers including current Dawson students, graduates, IVGD faculty, and several Montreal-based indie studios.
Come celebrate the emerging talent in Montreal's continually growing game development scene by trying out the games, chatting with developers and enjoying a few snacks.

Retiree Ken Fogel speaking at the world鈥檚 largest Java conference

Retired Computer Science faculty member Ken Fogel continues to keep quite busy. In April, he is conducting an all-day workshop at the Devnexus conference in Atlanta, the largest Java conference in the world. 听Ken will be talking about RESTful web services.

Celebrating extraordinary Dawson students

Last semester, 星空传媒视频 celebrated 33 students at the Fall Awards Night on Nov. 30. It was an occasion to celebrate the achievements, community involvement and perseverance of some of our extraordinary students. A big thank you to the donors, the partner organizations and of course, to the Dawson faculty and staff who help our students reach their potential.
In total, $19,800 was distributed to students who received awards last semester.

Street art mural created by students brightens up hallway
January 24th, 2024
Twenty-four students took part in a street art mural project in December at Dawson. Their work has added colour, beauty and a youthful feel to the 2C hallway, the location of student clubs and close to common spaces of the college.
This art project was fully funded by , a nongovernmental organization based in Montreal that works to advance human rights in Canada and around the world. The project was overseen by , which has a mission to beautify the city of Montreal by creating murals.

Be inspired by the journeys of our first four Perseverance Award recipients

Noella Dorothy Beersa (Liberal Arts), Wynter Bryant (Arts and Culture), El茅onore Martin-Menga (AEC in Commercial Photography) and Judy Phuong Trinh Le (Pure & Applied Science) are the first four recipients of the new 星空传媒视频 Perseverance Award.
This award is funded through the Student Academic Enrichment Fund and is intended to encourage Dawson students from all programs and sectors to continue in their studies.
