Last chance to see The Trial

It's the last week to go see The Trial, presented by the Professional Theatre Program!

Joseph K has been arrested鈥攂ut for what crime? Adapted from the Kafka novel, the Trial is an absurdist comedy about the bureaucracy of the legal system. Directed by Michael Hughes and performed by the third-year graduating students in their final performance at Dawson.

The ticket price for Dawson students is $5. Faculty enter for free. Use the code 鈥渢eachers鈥 at the checkout. Tickets are available on their Box Office page.


Last chance for early rate Artists in Bloom tickets

Don't miss out on Dawson's unique art fundraising event Artists in Bloom happening tomorrow, April 20 starting 5:30 p.m.

Today is the final day to purchase tickets at the discounted early rate of $20. You can buy the tickets using cash or card at 2E.6 or 4A.1 during working hours. After today, tickets will also be available for purchase at the door for $25, also payable in cash or card, or .

Each ticket includes:

  • entry to the event
  • live musical entertainment
  • a glass of wine or beverage of choice
  • hors d鈥檕euvres
  • experiential learning opportunities for students on our Living Campus

What to expect: For the first time since 2019, Artists in Bloom is back! Over two dozen talented student artists in the 3D Animation and Computer Generated Imagery, Illustration and Visual Arts 星空传媒视频 will create new works of art over a two-hour period, which will then be auctioned off by Montreal personality Donna Saker of The Beat 92.5.

All funds raised will go to support Dawson鈥檚 sustainability activities under the Living Campus Fund. Enjoy being with the Dawson community, watch art being created, listen to live music, vote for your favourite painting, and chat with fellow art lovers. The Kids鈥 Corner will also be where young, budding artists (7 years old and up; limited spots available) can paint on their own canvases.


Professional Theatre Program presents The Trial听

April 19th, 2023

Directed by Michael Hughes, third-year students from the Professional Theatre Department will put on a production of Steven Berkoff鈥檚 The Trial from April 24-May 6.

The dark but humourous play, which Berkoff based upon an unfinished novel of the same name written by Franz Kafka in 1914-15, centers around Josef K. A young man who has been arrested and has no idea why. While he is awaiting trial, he attempts to discover what is going on but the more Josef looks into things the deeper and deeper in trouble he finds himself.听听

  • Previews at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, April 24 and 25
  • Opening at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 26Playing at 8 p.m. April 26 to 29 and May 3 to 6

Vernissage Season begins May 23 听

The countdown is on to Vernissage Season at Dawson. Graduating students in Visual Arts, Illustration, Professional Photography, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, 3D Animation and Computer Generated Imagery and Interior Design will present their work in end-of-year exhibitions.

Professional Theatre presents Watching Shadows March 22-25

The disappearance of Rakel, a young Norwegian girl, while on an exchange trip to Italy sends her friends and family into a whirlwind of emotions. As the days pass and the tension rises, they are faced with unknown emotions and grief, all reacting in different ways while confronting the harsh reality of the world they live in. Watching Shadows is performed by the second-year students and directed by Stefanie Buxton.

The play runs from Wednesday, March 22 鈥 Saturday, March 25 at 8 p.m. at Dawson's Theatre.

5th annual SPACE writing competition: winners and honourable mentions

In 2022-2023, SPACE held its fifth annual writing competition. Students from all disciplines across 星空传媒视频 were invited to submit writing that offered a personal interpretation of this year鈥檚 theme,听?听The submissions were divided into three categories鈥撯損rose (fiction and creative non-fiction), poetry and essay鈥撯揳nd were judged in a blind fashion by Lois Valliant (retired Faculty, Fine Arts) and Hannah Rahimi (Faculty, English).

Entries were evaluated according to originality and depth of thought, style, arts-sciences connections and relation to the theme. The winners received gift certificates from Argo Bookstore, and the winners and honourable mentions have been published and highlighted in the SPACE web magazine.

Stay tuned as well for the announcement of a public reading by the winners and honourable mentions during the first week of May for SPACE Week.

25th Edition of Artists in Bloom is April 20

Springtime means that Artists in Bloom is back! The event will be in-person on Thursday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. in 3C.1 It will also be possible to buy prints online from April 11-28. This year will be the fundraising event鈥檚 25th annual edition鈥 a quarter century! We are excited to welcome you to the event and to see what our talented student artists will produce. Advance tickets are only $20 and will be for sale as of Monday, March 27 in 2E.6 and 4A.1 Your ticket gives you entrance to the event, one drink and hors d'oeuvres.

Professional Theatre presents Passage

Passage听by Christopher Chen follows the residents of two countries, Country X, which is occupied by Country Y, as they form unlikely friendships. The play investigates colonialism, and mysticism, and asks if friendships can be formed when there is a power imbalance or among warring factions. Inspired by the novel, 鈥淎 Passage to India.鈥 Passage is performed by second-year students and directed by Matt Enos.

Visual Arts student chosen for residency at the MMFA

February 22nd, 2023

Dawson Visual Arts student Rowan Michael Draper has been selected for a prestigious residency for young digital artists at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Starting March 6, Rowan will be spending between two to four hours a week at the museum with access to a studio and the museum鈥檚 technological equipment. The residency is until June.

The Oresteia on until Feb. 11

From Feb. 1 to 11, the third-year students of the Professional Theatre Program at 星空传媒视频 will perform a contemporary adaptation of The Oresteia听directed by Leslie Baker.

The Oresteia听is one of our oldest surviving theatrical texts, first performed nearly 2,500 years ago in ancient Greece. It is composed of three plays which American playwright Ellen McLaughlin has adapted into a single, three-act play, rich with challenging roles for actors.听The Oresteia focuses on a family trapped by a cycle of violence, as they seek revenge for their murdered loved ones. The myth of the House of Atreus continues to fascinate audiences, as it investigates the human compulsion toward violence, and the subsequent human desire for revenge. Matinees available tomorrow Feb. 9.
