Change at the helm of the Dawson Foundation

Earlier in February, Steve Hatajlo (Class of 1981, Computer Science) handed over the presidency of the 星空传媒视频 Foundation to Sean Smith (Class of 2001, Pure and Applied Science). Steve has served as a volunteer on both the Dawson Foundation Board of Directors and Dawson鈥檚 Board of Governors for many years. He remains a member of both boards.

Dawson grad wins major bursary

In October, Blain Haile (Dawson Class of 2023- Social Science (Law, Society and Justice) won a $5,000 TELUS Student Bursary.

Blain is pursuing a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Juris Doctor with a minor in Gender, Sexuality, Feminist, & Social Justice Studies.

Dawson grad and student are finalists for College Writers Award

November 8th, 2023

Charles Brisson (third-year student in 3D Animation and Computer Generated Imagery) and Nemesis Jarry (Class of 2023- Arts, Literature and Communication 鈥 Literature) are two of three finalists for the Quebec Writers Federation College Writers Award.

The winner will be announced at a gala on Nov. 13.

Humanities courses helped Dawson grad find his way and his why

What鈥檚 the point? was the theme of the Humanities and Public Life Conference the week of Sept. 18 at Dawson and a graduate returned to answer this question in a most convincing way.

Andreas Nicolaidis-Gagnon (Class of 2022, Social Service) only met teacher Daniel Goldsmith after he took his Humanities course online during the pandemic. They continue to enjoy a lively discussion on What鈥檚 App about the themes in the Enlightened Consciousness聽course. It was through this ongoing conversation that Daniel had the idea to invite Andreas back to Dawson to speak to students about the value of Humanities courses.

Good times and happy reunions at first Homecoming

鈥淚 met my best friend at Dawson and we came together.鈥

鈥淒awson made such an impact on me during my first years in Canada; I had to come.鈥

鈥淭here is just something special about the Dawson community and I had to come back and be part of it again.鈥

These were the sorts of comments we heard from graduates, retirees, employees and even current students who attended Dawson鈥檚 first-ever Homecoming on Sept. 23.

Special thanks to the Homecoming Organizing Committee, the staff who worked on a Saturday to make it happen, the teachers who hosted reunions and our event sponsors: the Burgundy Lion Group, Shaughnessy Caf茅 and Chartwells Canada.

Kung Fu athletes bring back 22 medals from Pan Am championships

Seven athletes who train with the Wing Chun Kung Fu group VTMTL-Dawson competed at the 4th Pan American Kung Fu Championships in Toronto Aug. 3-6 and came back with 22 medals!

Peace Week鈥檚 Dinner and Drag show choreographed by Theatre grad

Dawson Professional Theatre graduate Ken Antonio Rillo (Class of 2009) will be back at the College for Peace Week. He is the choreographer for the main act and lead dancer in a special Peace Week event called Dinner and Drag on Sept. 21.

Meet the awards recipients of Winter 2023

In case you missed it: over 50 Dawson students were recognized for their hard work, perseverance, and community involvement in the Winter 2023 semester.

Along with many other graduation awards, the newly established Jeff Barnaby Award for Film Production was presented for the first time during the graduation ceremony on June 20. The award was created to honour the innovative Mi鈥檊maq filmmaker and Dawson Cinema|Communications alumnus, Jeff Barnaby (1976-2022). The award is given to a graduating student in the Arts, Literature and Communication Program as seed funding for script development or the production of a short film.

We would like to congratulate the first person to receive this award, Cinema | Communications student Caleb Gales, who said 鈥淚 see this award as much more than a financial contribution; it is also an enormous milestone in my filmmaking career. I intend to put 100% of my effort into this project and use this as an opportunity to teach myself more about the world of professional filmmaking.鈥

The funds for this award were contributed as part of the Romany Eveleigh Gift for Students in the Arts.
