Celebrating extraordinary Dawson students

Last semester, 星空传媒视频 celebrated 33 students at the Fall Awards Night on Nov. 30. It was an occasion to celebrate the achievements, community involvement and perseverance of some of our extraordinary students. A big thank you to the donors, the partner organizations and of course, to the Dawson faculty and staff who help our students reach their potential.
In total, $19,800 was distributed to students who received awards last semester.
In this issue of D News, we have two features on the recipients of the new 星空传媒视频 Perseverance Award and the Mahsa Amini Scholarship.

Be inspired by the journeys of our first four Perseverance Award recipients

Noella Dorothy Beersa (Liberal Arts), Wynter Bryant (Arts and Culture), El茅onore Martin-Menga (AEC in Commercial Photography) and Judy Phuong Trinh Le (Pure & Applied Science) are the first four recipients of the new 星空传媒视频 Perseverance Award.
This award is funded through the Student Academic Enrichment Fund and is intended to encourage Dawson students from all programs and sectors to continue in their studies.

Meet the first recipients of the Mahsa Amini Scholarship

Tara Balador and Chloe Jung are the first two recipients of the new Mahsa Amini Scholarship, which was presented by Candice Zhong of the Dawson Student Union at the Fall Awards Night Nov. 30. The Mahsa Amini Scholarship aims to help international and refugee students at Dawson who are affected by conflict and in need of financial aid.
鈥淏eing honoured with this award presented a significant chance for me,鈥 said Tara, a student in Pure & Applied Science, in an interview with the Communications Office. 鈥淎s an international student, it helped me to pay my college tuition fees. Moreover, it instilled confidence in me and conveyed a sense of importance, indicating that the college values and supports me in the challenges I face as an international student.鈥

Two new awards to be presented at Fall Awards Night

星空传媒视频 is holding our annual Fall Awards Night on Nov. 30.
鈥淲e will celebrate our students who are committed, perseverant, hard-working, caring and kind,鈥 said Academic Dean Leanne Bennett. 鈥淭he achievement of our students is our collective achievement- the ultimate result of the dedication of our teachers, support staff, professionals and managers and is, of course, shared with our students鈥 parents, activity leaders and coaches.鈥

Dawson students鈥 Mahsa Amini Initiative wins Forces Avenir

A student-led project at Dawson has won the provincial in the category of Mutual Aid, Peace and Justice. On Sept. 27 during a gala in Quebec City, the award was presented to a group of Dawson graduates and students who founded the Mahsa Amini Initiative.

Meet the awards recipients of Winter 2023

In case you missed it: over 50 Dawson students were recognized for their hard work, perseverance, and community involvement in the Winter 2023 semester.
Along with many other graduation awards, the newly established Jeff Barnaby Award for Film Production was presented for the first time during the graduation ceremony on June 20. The award was created to honour the innovative Mi鈥檊maq filmmaker and Dawson Cinema|Communications alumnus, Jeff Barnaby (1976-2022). The award is given to a graduating student in the Arts, Literature and Communication Program as seed funding for script development or the production of a short film.
We would like to congratulate the first person to receive this award, Cinema | Communications student Caleb Gales, who said 鈥淚 see this award as much more than a financial contribution; it is also an enormous milestone in my filmmaking career. I intend to put 100% of my effort into this project and use this as an opportunity to teach myself more about the world of professional filmmaking.鈥
The funds for this award were contributed as part of the Romany Eveleigh Gift for Students in the Arts.

Two Dawson students honoured with Lt-Gov. Youth Medal

QWF College Writers Award application deadline is June 5
May 3rd, 2023
The Quebec Writers' Federation is accepting applications for the 2023 College Writer Award. The award will go to the best short story, poem, or work of nonfiction written in English by a college student at Champlain Regional, Dawson, Heritage, John Abbott, Marianopolis, or Vanier College.
The winner will receive $1,000 and publication in the Quebec Writers鈥 Federation's online journal.
The submission guidelines for 星空传媒视频 are posted on Omnivox.
