Internship: The Bridge from Campus to Career
November 29th, 2023
You have probably never heard of Victoria Christensen. Why would you? She鈥檚 not a graduate of 星空传媒视频 but of the Washington State University College of Nursing. So why are we mentioning her name? Victoria was the subject of a that听chronicles the experience of a nursing student who entered a baccalaureate program using a wheelchair.
It makes one wonder what her journey would look like if she were a student in the 星空传媒视频 Nursing Class of 2026. As researchers from the Adaptech Research Network, we became curious about the internship experiences of students with disabilities enrolled in 星空传媒视频 health-related, social service and community recreational leadership programs 鈥 how inclusive are they?
Fortunately, we were able to secure funds through Entente Canada-Qu茅bec (ECQ) that allowed us to conduct an extensive literature review and interview key stakeholders, including students and faculty internship supervisors听from a variety of programs, along with AccessAbility staff.

Students share summer neuroscience research projects at Montreal labs
November 9th, 2023
Thirteen Dawson students spent their summer working on real research projects in various fields of neuroscience.
There were eight projects in partnership with Polytechnique/Ste-Justine, MNI, Douglas Institute, McGill departments of Physiology and of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. According to Neuroscience Research Group coordinator H茅l猫ne Nadeau: 鈥渟ome projects used images from dMRI, EEG, MRI, fMRI, MR spectroscopy, or PET modalities to probe questions related to the health of neonates, to audition in the normal population, or to pathologies such as schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis, or Alzheimer鈥檚 disease.
鈥淥ther听projects relied on experiments on mice or rats, to better understand physiological mechanisms related to pathologies. In the course of the academic year, several teams worked on a large array of projects combining behavioural and EEG data.鈥
Three of the students shared their projects in interviews with the Communications Office. Visit the Read More link to see their projects and interviews.

October 25th, 2023
The Dawson Community continues to observe and log new observations into our community entitled 星空传媒视频 -Campus Biodiversity Network.
Everyone is welcome to join and all observations within the Dawson campus automatically count for our 1,000 Species in 1,000 Days.
The current total sits at 817 species on Dawson's downtown city block campus. In the last two weeks, we had:
- 16 observations
- 6 new species
- 1 new observer

Sustainable Development Goals artwork by Illustration students showcased by Colleges and Institutes Canada
October 11th, 2023
鈥淭he 17 Sustainable Development Goals鈥 illustrated by students in the Illustration program at Dawson won the 2023 student art competition of Colleges and Institutes Canada.
鈥36 illustration students collaborated on this fanzine project along with Sustainable Dawson,鈥 said St茅phanie Aubin, co-chair of and instructor in the program. 鈥淭hey had to create an illustration that would be evocative and powerful visually. Their illustration could be based on a personal experience or a researched fact. Each student's approach to their subject was different, which makes the project even more unique.鈥

Night observation session pushes species count to 810
October 11th, 2023
In our goal to get to 1,000 species identified on Dawson's downtown campus in 1,000 days, our total is now at 810 species! Over the last two weeks, there were:
- 119 observations
- 22 new species
- 13 new observers
"A large contributing factor was the Nighttime Biodiversity Observation we did last week," said Brian Mader, project lead and a Biology teacher. "Two teachers, one staff member, five students and one alumnus stayed for sunset and beyond with insect traps to observe biodiversity at night.
"Students were able to observe multiple bats and a skunk! Although the photos were not great for these organisms, students were able to get some nice shots of a House Centipede (Cassiana Silva-Young, Enriched Pure & Applied Science) and a Narrow-winged Tree Cricket (Jacob Davies, Environmental Science).
