C’est la Francofête à Dawson le 27-30 mars

Le comité est heureux de vous dévoiler la programmation de cette édition 2023 qui se déroulera durant la dernière semaine de mars: lundi 27, mardi 28, mercredi 29 et jeudi 30 mars.

Certaines activités (conférences, visionnements et rencontres, poésie) auront lieu durant la journée, tandis que nous avons choisi de mettre nos événements «tête d’affiche» le soir afin de favoriser la venue du plus grand nombre de classes possibles. Nous sommes également très heureux de pouvoir collaborer avec les programmes de travail social et de sciences de l’environnement du collège Dawson pour deux de nos événements.

Literary duo Arizona and Heather O’Neill share thoughts on Dawson experience

Ahead of their guest appearance at a Dawson Reads event on March 22, Arizona O’Neill (Fine Arts, 2013) and Heather O’Neill (Social Science, 1992) shared some thoughts on their Dawson experiences, the creative process and writing. Thanks to organizer and English teacher Sarah Gilbert for interviewing the mother-daughter duo.

Four Dawson students presented abstract at Lunar and Planetary Science conference

When it was time to submit an abstract to the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in Texas, the Dawson student team was not sure which category described them best.

“I think we are the first CEGEP students to present research at the LPI! Undergraduate was the category closest to us,” said Darcy Loane-Billings (Pure & Applied Science), lead author of the abstract and second-year student at Dawson.

Maxwell Jones confirmed as Dean of Science, Medical Studies & Engineering

Maxwell Jones has been confirmed to the position of Dean in the Science, Medical Studies and Engineering sector by the Board of Governors.

Max has been at Dawson since 2009 working as a Support Staff in Human Resources, the Office of Academic Development and the Arts, Literature and Communication program. He also was a faculty member of Dawson’s Centre for Training and Development, teaching English as a Second Language.

Since 2017, he played a role in managing the two largest pre-university programs at Dawson. He then served as the Associate Dean for the Science, Medical Studies and Engineering Sector for over three years – working with more than 200 faculty from seventeen departments, and over thirty support staff. It is an understatement to say that during that time he developed an understanding of the challenges and strengths of all SMSE programs.

We wish Max every success in his new role and know that he will receive our full support and collaboration as he takes on his new responsibilities.


Dawson overall winner of CRC Robotics competition

Dawson’s Robotics team was the overall champion and won or placed in almost all categories at the CRC Robotics competition in mid-February. They brought home two trophies and 11 plaques.

"Our team demonstrated an incredible spirit of togetherness, creativity, ingenuity and perseverance," said Joel Trudeau, faculty mentor to the team of 30 Dawson students. "Their joy and team spirit was inspirational!"

Students take on powerful experiential learning with KAIROS blanket exercise

As a Sociology teacher, Laura Shea has experienced the six times with different classes of students and Indigenous facilitators at Dawson. “I always learn from the facilitator and students,” she said. “It is very powerful experiential learning and I gain something different each time.”
