Third Annual SPACE Writing Competition
Students from all disciplines across ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ÊÓƵ were invited to submit writing to the 2020/21 SPACE Writing Competition. Just under 50 pieces, each offering a personal interpretation of this year’s theme, , were submitted. The pieces were judged by a jury of current and retired faculty—Amanda Cockburn (Faculty, English), Andrea Strudensky (Faculty, English), and Lois Valliant (retired Faculty, Fine Arts). Entries were evaluated according to originality and depth of thought, style, and connection to the theme. The winners received gift certificates from Argo Bookstore, and the winners and honourable mentions have been published and highlighted in the SPACE web magazine and will also be invited to present their work at a public reading in May.

SPACEpod Episode 1
SPACE has recently launched SPACEpod, a podcast which brings together students from the Arts and Sciences to interview guests about complex issues such as AI, social justice, climate change and the global pandemic, to name just a few, and to share from a student-perspective how those issues impact them.
The first episode features an interview (part 1 of 2) with Dawson students Hailey De Bono-Fine (Liberal Arts) and Fleur Betukumesu (International Business), about the COVID-19 pandemic with Dr. Lorne Scharf, Chief of Staff of the Cornwall Community Hospital.

TransLuminal
Recently, the electronics powering the TransLuminal light-box mural were replaced and upgraded. As part of a project relaunch, the ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ÊÓƵ community and others will be invited to interpret, through creative imagery and short reflections, what it means to go beyond the speed of light. Curated images submitted by participants will be uploaded to the light-box, adding a new layer of expression to this exploration of the intersections of the arts and sciences which is a hallmark of the SPACE initiative.
