TOEFL IBT (Online)
Prerequisite: Intermediate
Overall Goals:
- This course is designed to provide advanced preparation and practice in all four testing skills measured in the TOEFL IBT.
- Students become familiar with all test sections, independent and integrated tasks, and test strategies. Students are given opportunities to take simulated exams while improving the underlying reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills.
- Students are also expected to complete the assigned homework: take practice tests, write essays, or do grammar exercises, as well as study vocabulary.
- Each class will include a short vocabulary quiz and a pronunciation tutorial.
Intended Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Improve the TOEFL test-taking skills and strategies in each section of the test.
- Review grammatical patterns that occur regularly on the TOEFL.
- Simulate actual test-taking conditions and apply active strategies for all four skills to become familiar and comfortable with test situations.
- Learn vocabularies, grammar & written structures along with unique templates for every section of TOEFL IBT Exam.
- Learn keyword sentence technique that simplifies Reading Comprehension.
- Learn note-taking techniques which clarify Listening Comprehension answers.
- Learn embedded speaking structures which include language development and delivery.
- Learn psychological strategies provided for test day success and specific question strategies for every individual question type on the exam.
Methodology:
- Teaching the micro strategies and PEO techniques which are dominant in various TOEFL IBT skills
- Modeling and practicing exam practice on listening, reading, writing (integrated task 1 and 2) and speaking skills along with the latest TPO(s).
- Teaching all TOEFL question types and techniques in each of the four skills to respond to them successfully
- Reading activities (Skimming, scanning, Functional & closed reading skills, process of elimination and micro skills applicable in the context of reading and listening skills)
- Grammar activities targeting at tenses, points, and written structures necessary for TOEFL Writing encompassing both summarizing, integrated tasks, and independent essay section
- Using educational videos, PDF files, and PowerPoint presentations related to TOEFL skills to maximize the effectiveness of the applied methodologies.
Additional Practice:
Students will gain accession to the Trainers google drive for extra practice tests and designed materials, and they will be given many additional practice tests and worksheets.
