Overall Goals:

  1. Introduce students to the IELTS Academic and General Training formats.
  2. Prepare students to achieve success on the IELTS exam through instruction and guided practice.
  3. Enable students to reach their IELTS score goals by developing language skills useful for taking a language test.
  4. Familiarize students with the different kinds of questions that appear in each section of the test.

Methodology:

  • Teaching through testing by introducing the macro strategies dominant in various IELTS skills.
  • Modelling and practising exam practice on listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills.
  • Pair and group activities on productive skills such as speaking and writing.
  • Teaching all IELTS question types and techniques in each skill to tackle them separately.
  • Teaching top hints in IELTS Listening and Reading skills, and elaborating associated strategies and test-taking techniques.
  • Reading activities (Skimming, scanning, closed reading, process of elimination, and macro skills applicable when the readability of the test is high).
  • Grammar activities targeting tenses, points, and written structures necessary for IELTS speaking, academic writing tasks 1 and 2.
  • Using educational videos, PDF files, and power points related to IELTS skills to maximize the effectiveness of the applied methodologies.

Additional Practice

  • Official IELTS Practice Materials (Volume 1 and 2).
  • Barron’s IELTS International English Language Testing System (4th edition).
  • Google Drive access will be provided by the trainer of the course for extra materials.
  • Students will have one free placement & assessment.
  • Delivery of the tips will be through lectures, instructor-led discussions, as well as individual, pair, and group work.
  • Students will be provided with necessary extra materials and constructed tasks by the trainer.
  • Students will receive written feedback from the course instructor through an evaluation of a weekly coursework portfolio.
